Family Quotes: A Collection of Love and Inspiration Quotes
We live in a modern world that has enjoyed, for the most part, economic prosperity not seen in previous generations. We have enjoyed relative peace and advances in technology, medicine, and culture. Yet in the midst of this lies one of the greatest tragedies of our time: the breakup of the traditional family. Having come from a large and close-knit family myself (eleven children), I believe family is important…and worth saving. To encourage you about the importance of family and relationships, I’ve listed some of my favorite family-related quotes below, including my thoughts on each. Enjoy!
“The family. We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another’s desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking each other out of our rooms, inflicting pain and kissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together.” (Erma Bombeck)
I can identify completely with Erma’s sentiment. We were the picture of organized chaos, getting strange glances every time we went out in public. Visitors to our house would get the impression we were living on the edge of going crazy. Yet we knew different. In our own well oiled way, we made it through life depending on one another. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
“I think people that have a brother or sister don’t realize how lucky they are. Sure, they fight a lot, but to know that there’s always somebody there, somebody that’s family.” (Trey Parker)
I have seven brothers and three sisters; all different. Though we had a habit of annoying each other, there was an unspoken respect and pecking order. With that came the knowledge and security that each one was there to stand with another in trouble.
“Like all the best families, we have our share of eccentricities, of impetuous and wayward youngsters and of family disagreements.” (Elizabeth II)
I appreciate this one just for the sheer knowledge that even royalty experience the same ups and downs in their families. Can you imagine the Queen administering a spanking to a two year-old Charles? That image is priceless to me!
“A person soon learns how little he knows when a child begins to ask questions.” (Richard L. Evans)
I used to think I knew a little about everything and a lot about the important things. Then we had our first child and I realized how little I knew. Then I realized how smart my own parents were. What a strange turn of events.
